Not, indeed, in the main idea. The cross, as usual, is identified with the triumph over the powers of evil which it won. The very phrase "made a show," is cognate to the words "put Him to open shame" applied to the Crucifixion (Hebrews ).

The apparent triumph of the "power of darkness" over Him was His real and glorious triumph over ://   Christ has been seated at the right hand of God and given authority to reign over all principalities and powers, both in the spirit realm and in the earthly realm.

1st Peter (says that Christ) “Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.” Colossians –15 describes what God did for those who trust his Son, when he died on the cross: “[The record of debt that stood against us] he set aside, nailing it to the cross.

He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.” When Christ died for our sins, Satan was disarmed and ://   Satan is emphatically "the prince of darkness." For as "God is light" (1 John ) and "dwells in the light which no man can approach unto," so the enemy of God and man is the ruler of darkness, and when cast out of his present usurped dominion as the prince of the power of the air, will be shut up in the blackness of darkness ://   Jesus Christ is the gospel.

The good news is revealed in His birth, life, death, resurrection and ascension. Christ's crucifixion is the heart of the gospel; His resurrection is the power of the gospel and His ascension is the glory of the gospel. bad, letting light into the body or keeping it in darkness (Matthew ), but it falls to the Apostle John to emphasize this theme most fully in both his Gospel and his First Epistle.

For example, John's Gospel begins: "In him was life, and that life was the light Leviathan = Whale or later on the Crocodile i) Leviathan flashes forth light.

Rip the scales of leviathan (Job ). Whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. Fallen Lucifer, who is now known as Satan, stands against Christ by Leviathan&#x;s power as 2. We Need to Shine the Light Because Dark Forces Oppose the Light (v.

4) People have darkened minds of unbelief because they are affected by the dark forces opposed to the gospel. Paul speaks of the “god of this age,” referring to Satan and his powers of evil.

The hurricanes that hit Florida in left thousands without electrical ://   Satan and his evil spirits have power, but Christ has given us authority. If we are abiding in Christ, we can speak in His name, and the powers of darkness must obey us.

They recognize that back of us is the authority of Christ Himself. The Battle is Not Over. Satan is a defeated Not only must the gospel be preached from a servant life, but God himself must supernaturally give divine, spiritual light or sight to the heart.

“For God, who said, ‘Light shall shine out of darkness,’ is the one who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.”   The news of Christ, -- of Christ raised from the dead to be the life and the light of the world, -- stilled all their fears lest death should conquer life, and darkness conquer light.

So it was with all the heathen. So it was with our old forefathers, when they heard and believed the Gospel of ://   Paul writes about the influence of these particular spirits, the dark world powers, when he wrote his second letter to the church at Corinth: The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ /.

Volume 5 of the Conflict of the Ages series carries the story of the controversy between God and Satan to its ultimate and glorious conclusion. Beginning with the destruction of Jerusalem and continuing through the persecutions of Christians in the Roman Empire, the apostasy of the Dark Ages, the shining light of the Reformation, and the worldwide religious awakening of the nineteenth century   Paul said, "For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined into our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ" (2 Corinthians ).

John said, "His kingdom [Satan's] was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain" (Revelation ). God shakes things up through praise. As Paul and Silas sat in prison, shackled and chained, they kept right on praising God. And God sent an earthquake that shook the cells and broke the chains.

The jailer and all his entire family came to know Christ that very night, out of darkness into the Light. Photo Credit: Thinkstock
